Které tvrzení platí o druhém termodynamickém zákonu?

Druhý termodynamický zákon (TDZ) říká, že nelze sestrojit periodicky pracující tepelný stroj, který by jen přijímal teplo od určitého tělesa (tzv. ohřívače) a měnil by ho v práci o stejné velikosti. Říká tedy, že nelze sestrojit stroj s účinností 100 %, protože vždy musí část energie, kterou stroj přijme, odcházet ve formě tepla. U strojů se k účelu vyzáření tohoto tepla používají tzv. chladiče. Zároveň je vyjádřením tohoto zákona tvrzení, že teplo nemůže přecházet z chladnějšího tělesa na teplejší. Důsledkem platnosti druhého TDZ je skutečnost, že entropie izolované soustavy roste. Druhý TDZ není v rozporu s existencí živých soustav, protože ty jsou otevřenými, nikoliv izolovanými soustavami.
